By decision of the governor of the region, Giorgos Kasapidis, from Thursday evening, March 16, all types of vehicles are prohibited from the Servion Bridge.
The regional administration made this decision, following the recommendations of expert scientists, who found that there is a constant expansion of cracks in the ligaments of the bridge with the risk of collapse of part of the road surface.
With the help of Kozani Traffic, passenger car traffic is regulated from the Rimniou Bridge, and passenger car traffic is carried out along Egnatia Street either in the direction of Thessaloniki or in the direction of Metsovo – Kalambaka.
The governor of the region emphasized that “we are working non-stop to deliver as little inconvenience to our fellow citizens as possible and to minimize the economic consequences for the region.”
Yesterday morning, the Kozani prosecutor, on the orders of the Kozani Police Department, ordered an urgent preliminary inspection, in which she emphasizes the need to “take measures to completely ban traffic on the bridge in case of detecting the slightest possibility of its collapse.”
The High Serbion Bridge is one of the longest bridges in Greece, at 1372 meters long, it is part of the Kozani-Larisa national road and connects Western Macedonia with Central and Southern Greece.
