The National Research Institute of Earth Physics (INCDFP) announced Thursday that it has begun installing the latest generation of equipment to make the measurements. Among the tools are drones that measure the earth’s surface, wireless seismic sensors and temporary seismological stations that help understand phenomena.
“INCDFP has begun commissioning a series of state-of-the-art equipment for interdisciplinary measurements. Among the prepared instruments are drones with lidar, an absolute gravimeter, wireless seismic sensors and temporary seismological stations, which will be used to investigate different research areas,” the INCFDP said in a press release, according to News.ro.
Experts said that Lidar drones allow researchers to make high-precision measurements of the Earth’s surface, including in hard-to-reach areas.
“Absolute gravimeters are used to measure variations in the Earth’s gravitational field, which can provide valuable information about the geological structure and dynamics of our planet. Wireless seismic sensors and temporary seismological stations are used to monitor seismic movements and better understand the processes that lead to earthquakes and other important geological events,” the experts explained.
They also stated that the latest generation equipment “represents an important step for geological and geophysical research, as it allows the application of new methods of investigation of the studied areas and, at the same time, a contribution to the evolution of this field through the obtained results.”
