A 28-year-old young man, a researcher at the Mountain Economy Center CE-MONT from Vatra Dornei, died on Wednesday at the Vatra Dornei Municipal Hospital, while doctors were preparing him for surgery after a fractured elbow, the case is being investigated in criminal proceedings for involuntary manslaughter.

Young Valeriu Stoilov injured his elbow during a football game with friends and went to the hospital for consultation.

He was examined, diagnosed with a fractured elbow and scheduled for surgery.

The medical director of Vatra Dornei Municipal Hospital, Dr. Christian Rusu, a surgeon, told the press that Valeriu Stoilov was hospitalized on March 13 and an operation was scheduled for March 15, with all pre-operative tests and studies.

“Everything was fine, the patient had not suffered before. After anesthesia, he had a cardiorespiratory arrest, initially reversible,” said the hospital’s medical director.

He stated that he was resuscitated, but he again went into cardiac and respiratory arrest, and after repeated manipulations, for over an hour, he became unresponsive and was pronounced dead.

According to the medical director of the hospital, the anesthesiologist has 40 years of experience and would say that he had never encountered such a case before.

“Nor have I had a situation like this in the 20 years I’ve been working as a surgeon,” said Dr. Christian Rusu.

After the autopsy, it will be possible to find out what caused the patient’s death.
