Hellenic Train will pay for:
Advance payment of EUR 42,000.00 to the families of deceased passengers
To affected passengers, regardless of the severity of the injury, an advance payment of (a) EUR 5,000.00 if, as of the date of this announcement, they have not been admitted to any hospital or clinic, and (b) EUR 10,000.00 if, as of the date of this announcement, they remain hospitalized in any nursing facility or clinic and for the purpose of meeting immediate financial needs of all of the above, despite the fact that European law does not provide for a specific minimum amount of the advance payment.
The families of those killed, injured and other passengers of the aforementioned train during the accident will be compensated in the amount of 300.00 euros for all their baggage, including hand luggage, personal effects and animals.
In order to pay the above amounts, in order to simplify and speed up the procedures, the beneficiaries must provide Hellenic Train with the following supporting documents:
1. Death advance recipients must provide an original or legally certified copy of the Certificate of Immediate Relatives. It is sufficient that one of the persons mentioned in the above Certificate provides this by signing a Declaration of Responsibility recognized by KEP or issued through gov.gr that he is acting on behalf of other relatives mentioned in the above Certificate, as well as any other possible legal heir.
2. It is sufficient for recipients of advance payments in connection with an injury if they are included in the official lists of victims and present (a) either a police identification card or any other official identification document (for example, a passport, driver’s license, etc.), (b) a document certifying their TIN and AMCA and (c) a document confirming their admission to a nursing institution or clinic, as well as any statement and (d) their ticket, if any.
3. For carry-on baggage, personal effects and animals, beneficiaries must present either a police identification card (ID) or any other official identification document (for example, a passport, driver’s license), as well as a ticket, if any.
Beneficiaries of all the above categories can submit all the necessary supporting documents in the form of a certified photocopy to a special electronic service for this purpose – a special email address for receiving requests: [email protected] along with their full contact information (name, address, email address, telephone).
In addition to all of the above, Hellenic Train has set up a special team that, based on the existing situations of the beneficiaries of all the above categories, will take over the management of the requests of individual beneficiaries in order to facilitate the implementation of all the above measures. .
Finally, it is noted that despite the fact that human life cannot be valued by any monetary security, nevertheless, the decision of the Company, the above advances, exceeds the minimum obligations provided for the railway company by European Regulation No. 1371/2007 regarding the rights and obligations of passengers, railways ., According to Article 13 of European Regulation 1371/2007 (EC), the payment of advances (and only) by the railway company in the event of injury or death of a passenger, as regards covering urgent financial needs. The specified advance cannot be less than €21,000 in the event of the death of a passenger, while in the event of harm to the passenger, the obligation to pay an advance payment to the injured passenger is provided, but without a minimum amount of the advance is determined. It is also explicitly stated that, in accordance with the aforementioned Article 13 of the said Regulations, the advance in question does not in any way constitute recognition of any liability of the railway company. It should be noted that the scope of the above provision (Article 13 EC 1371/2007) does not include the category of uninjured passengers.”
