Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu begins an official visit to Germany on Wednesday in the context of large-scale protests against the judicial reform taking place in his country, writes DPA.
On Thursday, he will meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin.
The visit is overshadowed by a row in Israel over controversial “judicial reform” that Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition government is trying to impose. Demonstrators are expected to try to prevent Netanyahu from leaving Israel by blocking roads.
Protests are also expected in Berlin on Thursday, and Netanyahu’s visit will be accompanied by a large-scale police operation.
According to the police union, more than 3,000 police officers will be deployed from Wednesday to Friday morning. During Benjamin Netanyahu’s stay in Berlin, the highest security measures will be taken, with roads blocked and security borders established.
Netanyahu’s talks with Scholz will focus on bilateral cooperation and international and regional security issues.
Netanyahu recently visited Rome and plans to visit London. According to Israel, it is trying to get a firm common position against Iran’s nuclear program. (Source: Agerpres)
