Romanian builder UMB appears to be pushing hard on the ring road section (A0) north of the capital, with work on the roughly 10km section between the DN1 and the A3 looking good to be ready in 2023. , although the work started last summer.

Lot 2 A0 Nord has a length of 19 km, and between DN1 and A3 there are about 10 km, which could be opened to traffic as early as 2023.

The entire lot could then be opened to traffic with temporary relief on the east side at the intersection with DJ100 pending the completion of adjacent Lot 3 (contract pending).

New drone footage (and from the ground in the air defense zone of Otopeni airport) taken by Asociația Construim România (ASCORO) shows just how far work has progressed on the site, which is being carried out by Romanian builder UMB.

Filming takes place on the DN1 – A3 section, which may be ready this year:

Comparison between builders on A0: Romanians from UMB – 33% in 8 months / Greeks from Aktor – less than 30% in 17 months

About 71 kilometers are currently under construction on the capital ring A0 (about 101 km), of which 52 km are on the southern side.

On the north side, only two lots are enclosed, both with UMB. Of the two, only Lot 2 has started work. The other two lots are still pending in the case…

On A0 Nord – Lot 2, UMB started preparatory work last spring and entered the construction site from August 2022.

Less than two months have passed since the developer laid the first layers of asphalt on some parts of the site. Now, according to CESTRIN, the work stage has reached at least 33%.

UMB’s progress on the A0 is even more impressive when compared to another similar site, Lot 1 A0 South.

The Greeks from Aktor operate 18 km from the A1 to the DN6 (which contain only one junction on the route – the one leading to the A1). After a stuttering continued with the approval of the implementation project, work started in October 2021.

At the moment, the work stage is only about 30%, after almost 17 months of the 30 months of the contract have passed…

The official deadline for the Greeks is 2024, but “with the current ‘mobilization’ we are starting to feel that we will be traveling between the A1 and DN6 in 2024,” notes the Pro Infrastructure Association.

UMB, a developer with a tradition of early completion of facilities on highways

In recent years, the Romanian company UMB has been the most successful among highway builders, achieving exemplary mobilizations on construction sites and even grand openings before the contractual deadlines.

Here we can mention that UMB built and completed ahead of schedule the only section of the A7 open to traffic: 16 km along the Bacău lane, opened to traffic about a year ahead of schedule.

Similarly, UMB completed and opened ahead of schedule the section of the A1 motorway near Timisoara, which opened to traffic in October 2012, six months ahead of schedule.

UMB – originally a company from Bacău – currently works on a continuous frontage of more than 250 kilometers of the A7 motorway in Moldova. Practically, of the 13 sections of the PNRR A7, from Ploiesti to Paškani, UMB is building 10 of them.
