Oscars 2023: The moment the Academy honored Irini Pappa and Vangelis Papathanasiou

OUR Irini Papa And Vangelis Papathanasiou was part of the unity Oscar “In Memoriam”, in which the Academy annually honors entertainment industry figures who have passed away in the past year.

The world famous Greek actress and singer passed away on September 14, 2022, and the famous Greek composer died on May 17 of the same year. Both of them marked an important path in the field of art.

The homage was provided by John Travolta, who broke down when he mentioned co-star and good friend Olivia Newton-John, with whom he co-starred in the 1978 classic Grease. Newton John died on August 8, 2022.

“They made us smile and we became good friends that we will always be devoted to,” the emotionally charged actor said shortly before the video aired.

Travolta then welcomed onto the stage Lenny Kravitz, who sat at the piano and performed his 2004 hit “Calling All Angels”, Gene Lollobridge, Kirstie Alley, James Caan, Irene Cara and others.

However, the tribute didn’t include the faces the industry “lost” last year. Missing from the video were Ann Hatch, Triangle Trilogy star Charlby Dean, Leslie Jordan, Cindy Williams, Tom Sizemore and Paul Sorvino, according to a tweet. But their names are on the Oscar website, in the “In Memoriam” list.

October 2022 also saw the death of indigenous activist and actress Sahin Littlefeather, who attended the 1973 Oscars on behalf of Marlon Brando to refuse the gold statuette he received for his role as Vito Corleone in The Godfather. Some wondered if the Academy would include her in a tribute video. Littlefeather may have had a few small movie roles, but her name is on the online list of those who died in 2022.
