In total, over the past month, 28,000 volunteer fighters have submitted documents to join the Airborne Assault Guard of Ukraine, almost all units have already been formed, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, reported, Ukrinform reports.
“We have already accepted 28,000 applications from volunteer fighters. Applications were submitted through administrative service centers and through the relevant website. Of course, not everyone gets into these divisions, as the selection is quite strict. We have already started the training of almost all units at the training grounds of our country,” said Klymenko.
According to him, the training will continue as long as it is necessary for the units to be ready for combat.
“The units are basically formed and today we are additionally recruiting volunteer fighters so that we have a reserve for the future,” added Klymenko.
The idea of creating stormtrooper brigades belongs to the ex-minister of internal affairs
The announcement of the formation of the Airborne Assault Guard was made by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine at the beginning of February.
“Ukraine is preparing to storm all the way to the Crimea and the Black Sea in order to knock out the occupiers from our territory. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is starting to form the Airborne Assault Brigades of the National Guard, the National Police and the State Border Service, which are called the Airborne Assault Guard.
These are brigades of volunteers, motivated people who will take part in the liberation of Luhansk, Donetsk, Crimea… Eight brigades against one enemy. It’s time to return what is ours,” Klymenko said more than a month ago.
The idea of creating these brigades of “Assault Guards” under the name “Assault Guard” came from the former Minister of Internal Affairs Denys Monastyrskyi, who died in a helicopter crash in January.
“I want to tell you about the project that my friend Denys Monastyrskyi was preparing, but due to tragic reasons he was never able to implement it,” said Rostyslav Smirnov, adviser to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Pravda.ua reports. .
“We are talking about the Assault Guard – a project aimed at gathering motivated volunteers to prepare and participate in offensive operations with the aim of strengthening the main forces of our country and expelling the enemy from our territory as soon as possible.
The idea of the project is that anyone who wants to can choose a military unit according to their spirit, sign up and undergo several months of mandatory combat training followed by combat coordination of new units. That is, not under the conditions of general mobilization, wherever you are sent, but on your own initiative in the part that corresponds to your values and ideology,” he explained.
“Assault Guard” volunteers can choose between:
- Steel Border (“Steel Border”, brigade of the State Border Service of Ukraine);
- Chervona kalyna (“Chervona kalyna”, the brigade already includes servicemen who took part in battles in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, defended Kyiv);
- Lut (“Lyut”, brigade of the National Police of Ukraine);
- Rubiy (military who defended Gostomel airport, Rubizhne in Luhansk region);
- Spartansky (an amphibious assault brigade, defending Kharkiv);
- Kara-Dag (“Kara for Crimea”, will participate in the liberation of the peninsula);
- Bureviy (“Hurricane”, liquidation brigade of the Russian army, according to Smirnov);
- “Azov” (legendary unit in Ukraine, also fought in Mariupol).
Volunteers who will become “stormtroopers” will receive good salaries, the opportunity to get housing, training and other “substantial advantages” under this project, the Ukrainian authorities said.
