The Bucharest Court of Appeal ordered on Friday that Niculae Bedalau be released from custody and will be tried on bail under judicial supervision in a case in which he is accused of corruption, Agerpres reports.

In the same case, Bedalau’s accomplice Olena Matache escaped from house arrest while under judicial supervision.

On February 28, a Giurgiu court judge extended the arrest warrants issued against the two, but the Bucharest Court of Appeal upheld their appeals and ruled that the arrest warrants be revoked.

Badelau has been in custody since the end of November 2022.

Nicolae Bedalau has several bans, he is not allowed to leave Romania or contact his informant Dan Pasat or Elena Matace.

The Court of Giurgiu is trying Nikulae Badelau for bribery and abuse of influence in a case in which he is accused of offering a bribe of 170,000 euros to the mayor of Buksani commune, Dan Pasat (a former PNL MP), in exchange for the awarding of some contract works in public.

According to DNA, on August 9 and November 19, 2022, as an advisor to accountants at the Chamber of Accounts and vice president of the Audit Authority in the same institution, Nikulae Bedalau demanded from Mayor Dan Pasat to award a certain contract to a company managed by Badelau’s relative. The contract concerned “Reconstruction of the drinking water supply system”, estimated at 7,071,925 lei without VAT.

In exchange for this “favor”, Bedeleu would promise to identify a person from the management of the National Investment Company (CNI), whom he made it clear that he had influence, to secure the financing of the two submitted projects. this institution by the Bushy mayor’s office.

In addition, in the period 2021-2022, in the context of the execution of the contract that the same municipality concluded with the same commercial company, Nikulae Bedalau would offer Mayor Dan Pasat several sums of money in exchange for making further payments to the company in question, even for inappropriate works.

“In the same context, on November 19, Nikulae Badelau promised the mayor to transfer 7% (170,000 euros) of the value of the contract mentioned above, as well as the future contract he sought to obtain. for the same company, from the relevant city hall. Later, on November 25, 2022, the defendant Nikulae Bedalau would transfer 35,000 lei to the mayor, which was part of the amount of money promised in connection with the current contract,” the anti-corruption prosecutors said.

Dan Pasat is the applicant witness in the case. It was he who reported on Badelau in DNA.
