The stationmaster’s first testimony reveals the early departures of the stationmasters on duty at Larissa, problems with the control system, and “blank” changes to the account book after the deadly train accident at Tempi.
“K” brings to light the testimony of a 59-year-old man about the events before and after the collision of two trains, which led to the death of 57 people.
shifts at the station
The number of station masters working in each shift is provided for by the internal regulatory documents of the OPS and is determined at each station by the head of the inspectorate.
According to the testimony, until January 25, every shift: from 6:00 to 15:00, from 14:00 to 23:00 and from 22:00 to 7:00, the head of the station was on duty. Since January 25, 14 station chiefs have been added and it was decided that two people will perform the morning and afternoon shifts, and one person will perform the evening shift. Thus, on the night of the accident, from 22:00 to 23:00, there should have been three station chiefs at Larisa station.
“I am on duty and talking on the phone with the head of Volos station that train 2576 left at 23:10 (…), and at the same time as GSMR, the head of station Nea Poron gave me a telegram that train 63503 left at 23: 05 from Novye Resursy station to Larissa, moving along the downward path.
“No, I did not find any damage. At the moment when I was informed at the fire department about the collision of trains, I called both trains, and neither of them answered me, and I told the stationmaster of Nea Poron to call and her, but there was no answer, and then I realized what had happened.
“I told him that he goes through the red exit traffic light and continues until the traffic light at the New Resources entrance. He should have told me why the keys are diagonal and not straight.”
“Yeah, like I said, I had to tell him he was in a double uptrend. But I didn’t tell him to move in one ascending line.”
Changes in the income and expense book
Elsewhere, the 59-year-old stationmaster claims changes were made to the delivery receipt book and explicit orders to the stationmaster for the afternoon shift to stay until train 62 had passed were not heard.
“(…) the head of the station of Larisa instructed P. to sit until train 62 passed. Each head of the station, after his shift, transfers and receives a young man and this transfer is printed in writing in the appropriate book and at the beginning and at the end time is fixed previous shift.
