Now it’s defender Toby Alderweireld’s turn to end his international career after 13 years, during which he made 127 appearances and scored five goals, writes Reuters.
The Royal Antwerp footballer was part of the team that defeated Brazil and reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.
The 34-year-old defender, who was brought to the big football by Amsterdam “Ajax”, also played for “Atletico” and “Tottenham Hotspur”.
“It was my dream to play for the national team, and I am very grateful that it came true. It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I will withdraw from the Belgium national team with immediate effect,” Alderweireld told the website of the Belgian Football Association.
