Basket and fines

When the war broke out in our area, we all thought that even if we were not in immediate danger, it would affect us on many levels. A year later, the consequences remain in our daily lives and nowhere better than in the famous family basket.

Before the war, according to a recent report by “K”, a total of 62 food products in only one case has a negligible price decrease (0.02% for fresh fish), and for all other products prices increase from 0.29% (fresh fruits) up to 44.96% (sugar). The increase is more than 20% for 14 types of food products, which include the most basic ones, such as milk (24.29% fresh, with an even greater increase for other types of milk), bread (25.55%), flour (26. 89%), eggs (26.27%), cheeses (26.61%), yogurt (21.65%), olive oil (22.37%), beef (20.15%), lamb and goat meat (21 .35%). The price for a Greek family is unbearable.

If we now leave the supermarket and head to the catering area, then things are much worse there. Going to a simple tavern is now a luxury. I doubt a family of four can easily enjoy a Sunday lunch away from home.

The worse news is that the price de-escalation will be delayed even further. Even the food industry puts pressure on the high cost of production, the cost of energy and raw materials. Market participants say we will also see further price increases as industries pile up the raw materials they paid dearly for.

According to the law, the “household basket” will be valid until the end of March. Will definitely need more. Families want support, as much as possible, but also protection. Intense checks and harsh fines, where dishonest proceeds will be found and will be recovered. An interesting report would be how many of the hundreds of thousands of euro fines that we hear about from time to time being imposed on large supermarkets end up in the state treasury.
