The Russian army struck the command post of the Azov regiment of Ukrainian troops in the southeast of the Zaporizhzhia region, the Russian Ministry of Defense said on Sunday, Reuters reports.
In its daily report on what Moscow calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine, the ministry did not provide details of the attack.
Reuters was unable to independently verify the account.
The Azov Regiment, which had far-right and ultra-nationalist origins and is now a unit of the Ukrainian National Guard, drew international attention for its resistance to the Russian siege of the Azovstal metallurgical plant in Mariupol last year.
The Russian ministry did not mention in the Sunday bulletin the battle around the eastern city of Bakhmut, which Russian troops are trying to capture.
