Almost an entire brigade of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet resigned due to non-fulfillment of contract terms, but the military command rejected their request, reports the independent publication The Moscow Times.
About 20 contract servicemen of the 126th Coastal Defense Brigade of the Black Sea Fleet have resigned. They cited non-fulfillment of the terms of the contract. The command rejected them all, Russian publications report.
The brigade, which is stationed in one of the strongholds of the Russian army in the Kherson region, has 27 people, and most of them wanted to leave since December.
“I said, I’m bored, that’s all. In order to rest, you have to get injured and go to the hospital. There are no other options,” explained one of the soldiers who resigned.
The military command did not accept their resignations and revoked their passes.
In addition, all packages they receive have begun to be inspected, and food and alcohol are likely to be confiscated.
“They said, alcohol created ulcers in their heads, through which bad thoughts get there,” the contractor told the publication.
He also said that the fighters of the brigade refused to fight “for reasons of conscience”, and when the war began, they were led to believe that they had come “to liberate the population from the fascists”. It turned out that the residents of Ukraine do not want this, says the interlocutor of the publication. Then he too began to doubt.
Periodically, Russian soldiers refuse to fight due to a lack of training, supplies or the necessary weapons. The Moscow Times also notes that the military authorities send refuseniks to specially equipped basements, where they are beaten and tortured.
