According to the information, the curator of all investigations, the head of the Larissa Prosecutor’s Office of Appeal, Stamatis Daskalopoulos, requested that investigations be directed towards finding all the data about how the inexperienced stationmaster was alone for 4 days at the Larisa station, and in fact, when there was a lot of train traffic during the three days of Clean Monday.

Shocking are the first figures of seizures made yesterday by a prosecutor’s order in the EfE offices in Larisa, from which it follows that the head of the station was at a particular post for only five days. Of these four alone, without the presence of another experienced station master.

Specifically, as it turns out, his five-day period began last Friday, February 24, at the Larisin post. On that day, he was in student status.

But in the following days, Saturday, Sunday, Clean Monday and Tuesday, he was alone, as the head of the station.. A little earlier, he served in other positions, for example, in Kalambaka and Neios Poros. In particular, he worked in Kalambaka from February 1 to the 14th of the same month.

Then he studied for three days at the New Resources station, where he worked as the head of the base station for two days on the 22nd and 23rd of the month. The next day he went to Larisa. In Larissa, however, he also served as an apprentice at the end of January for five days, and in total his service as a station master in all three positions in which he worked was only 16 days.

Now about his criminal appeal. Today, Saturday, he apologizes to a lay investigator who took on a case with a serious charge of violating traffic safety, a crime that, under a recent amendment to the Criminal Code, is prosecuted as a felony and carries a sentence of ten years to life in prison. .

He also faces charges of serial manslaughter, as many as the number of people who died, but also charges of inflicting bodily harm with the same criminal qualification as the wounded who got out alive.

However, according to the indictment filed against him, the omissions are serious, they are not limited to his mistake in sending the train in the wrong direction, but continue, as from the electronic system operating to the point in Larisa, he could see the train that started off incorrectly and correct his fatal decision.

A moving train is monitored at a distance of 5.5 kilometers from the moment of departure of trains from the Larisa station to the place where there is the possibility of electronic control over the movement. Such a system did not exist then.

Also, according to the indictment, he did not take into account – the third mistake – the fact that the head of the New Resources station notified him 17 minutes before the collision that the freight train was moving in the same direction.

In addition, as follows from his pre-trial apology, in which he admitted his mistakes, he understood what happened when he learned about the tragedy.
