The search for the wreckage of the passenger train continues to find people missing from the Tempe train derailment.

According to ERT, the crews working at the scene are now focused on the third car of the train. The possibility of cutting the car into three parts was initially discussed, but now it is being considered to lift it with a crane and move it to a nearby place to check the space under this disintegrated section of the train.

According to rescuers, after the process is completed, the remaining cars must be re-checked. The operation is expected to be completed by tomorrow morning.

Because the exact number of passengers is not established

The exact number of passengers remains unknown, since, according to information provided by the state channel, ticket offices close 10 minutes before the train departs, and those who board later buy a ticket on the train. The passenger train made seven stops before the collision.

According to the head of the forensic service Larisa, Rubini Leontarithe fatalities from the accident are now 57. In hospitals, parents looking for their children underwent DNA testing. So far, 9 bodies have been identified.

Fire brigade representative, fire chief Vassilis Vatrakoyannisfirefighters said they are investigating the dining car, which was crushed by the first car in the collision.

Fire department spokesman Yiannis Artopios described the operation in this particular car as very difficult, noting: “We see that there are people (…) a lot of people.”

Meanwhile, of the 72 injured passengers who were hospitalized, 15 have been discharged and six are in intensive care units. Three children, two women and a man are in critical condition.
