Minister of Labor Marius Budai states that the reform of pensions granted under special laws provides for the recalculation of those pensions, the amount of which exceeds the income received by the pensioner during the period when he was active, insisting that the law providing for such Provisions will be passed not extraordinary by decree, but through parliamentary debates.
“So said, cut, it’s so… too direct. Those pensions that exceed the amount of income received during the activity will be transferred. Absolutely everyone. With a clear statement that no one will touch the contribution,” Marius Budei said Wednesday night on Romanian television, according to News.ro.
The minister clarified that such pensions are issued primarily among former magistrates who have retired.
According to Maryus Budai, pensions will be transferred taking into account 80% of the pensioner’s gross income, but on the condition that it does not exceed the net income he received while working.
Asked if there was a concrete way to calculate these pensions, Budai said: “It is not a problem, the problem is to finally have a draft law that will be agreed with the European Commission and published in the Official Journal so that we can put it into effect.”
Budai confirmed that such a project will not be adopted through an extraordinary resolution, but through parliamentary debates.
About the possibility of taxation of special pensions
When asked whether he would come to taxing pensions, the minister clarified that there is a “recommendation in the World Bank report, but also in the World Bank report it is said that this should be done in consultation with the Ministry of Finance and proposals and decisions will come from there, and this is what we will do.”
