St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo airport temporarily suspended all flights on Tuesday, the city’s government said, without giving a reason for the move. A Russian online publication claims that fighter jets took off from the ground to investigate a possible unidentified flying object.

Russian online publication Baza reported that an unidentified object had been spotted in the sky and that fighter jets had been dispatched to investigate, but Russian officials had no comment.

Reuters was also unable to confirm this information.

The city’s government announced on its Telegram channel that it has suspended all flights from the airport until 12:00 local time (09:00 GMT).

Data from the website Flight Radar showed that a number of domestic flights bound for St. Petersburg returned to their destination.
