On Monday, the Kremlin assessed that although the plan for settling the conflict in Ukraine proposed by China last week “deserves attention”, the necessary conditions for a “peaceful” solution are not fulfilled “at the moment” and at the same time are qualified. new sanctions as “absurd” by the EU against Moscow a year after the start of the war, reports AFP.

“Any efforts that contribute to bringing this conflict to a peaceful course deserve attention. We are very carefully considering the plan of our Chinese friends,” Kremlin press secretary Dmytro Peskov said.

But “this is a long process. Currently, we do not see the conditions for this business to take a peaceful path. The military special operation (in Ukraine) continues,” he added.

China’s plan

On Friday, exactly one year after the start of Russia’s offensive on Ukraine, Beijing published a 12-point document urging Moscow and Kyiv to take part in peace talks.

Even if China tries to impose itself as a mediator in this conflict, its position as an ally of Russia disqualifies it in the eyes of the West, which, in turn, supports Ukraine, AFP notes.

Even if Moscow and Kyiv did not show a desire to start negotiations at this stage, they were cautious about the proposal of the Chinese economic giant.

Thus, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy assessed that it is “necessary” to work with Beijing on resolving the conflict. Zelensky also stated that he intends to meet with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in the future.

In front of the Kremlin, Russian diplomacy reported that it “appreciates” China’s efforts, while insisting on the need to recognize Russia’s annexation of four Ukrainian regions claimed by Moscow.

EU sanctions are “absurd”

Also on Monday, the Kremlin called “absurd” the new sanctions introduced by the European Union against Russia a year after the start of its offensive against Ukraine, which are aimed at 121 individuals and legal entities.

“All this is absurd. We see that anyone is put under the sanctions regime (…), only in order to draw up new lists,” Dmytro Peskov told the media, assuring at the same time that the measures “will not embarrass” the sanctioned persons.

He said it was “obvious” that the EU would continue its sanctions policy and that “new legal and moral entities will be absurdly” on these lists.

On Friday, the EU approved the tenth package of sanctions aimed at the Russian economy.

The measures, in particular, impose new restrictions on EU exports to Russia worth 11 billion euros and freeze the assets of three Russian banks and numerous entities, including Iranian companies accused of supplying drones to Moscow, European diplomatic sources said. The list includes 121 individuals and legal entities. (Source Agerpres)
