The ex officio intervention of the Athens District Attorney’s Office was prompted by posts on social media, including by an MP. Pavlos Polakis for the chief judges who were part of the Special Court that sentenced former Minister Nikos Pappe.
In the posts, in addition to the supreme judges, there were also references to judges who participate in another Special Court, where former minister Dimitris Papagelopoulos is on trial, and in his post, the deputy referred by name to journalists and other subjects of public life.
The head of the prosecutor’s office, Antonis Eleftherianos, intervened, instructing the head of criminal prosecution, Eleni Triantafyllu, to conduct a preliminary investigation into at least two crimes: inciting citizens to commit crimes and violence against judicial officials. .
The prosecutor’s interference concerns a number of Internet posts, not just the controversial post of Polakis, in respect of which the prosecutor’s office, in connection with his parliamentary powers, will refer the case, as planned, to parliament for further consideration.
