The attacks in the Vugledar area caused huge losses to Russian forces, both soldiers and armored vehicles, most of which belonged to forces considered the elite of Vladimir Putin’s army.

Numerous photos and videos published on social networks show the incredible disaster: the fields around Vugledar are littered with Russian military equipment, destroyed by mines and Ukrainian artillery and troops.

The video, analyzed by an analyst of the OSINT community, shows that about 100 units of armored vehicles entered the battle there, which were destroyed by the defense forces of Kyiv.

The elite power of Moscow was defeated

The Ministry of Defense of Great Britain in its assessment on Saturday morning notes that the images (published on the network) show concentrated losses of Russian equipment in the Vugledar area of the Donetsk region:

  • “These vehicles were probably elements of the 155th Russian Marine Brigade, which was on the front lines of the last offensive that cost the Russians dearly.
  • NI is considered the elite infantry in the Russian army. Unlike the equally prestigious Airborne Infantry (Airborne Infantry), the ND was not deployed as a single large formation in Ukraine.
  • Instead, individual units were attached to force groups dominated by the Ground Forces.

As such, the NI was tasked with some of the most difficult tactical missions of the war and suffered extremely heavy casualties.

  • The presumed superior capability of the NI brigades was now almost certainly significantly impaired as it was supplemented by inexperienced mobilized personnel.
  • This inexperience almost certainly increases the propensity of Russian officers to micromanage, which in turn reduces operational agility.
  • There is a realistic possibility that degraded NI units will be re-engaged in further attacks near Wugledar.’

In Vugledar, 100 Russian tanks were destroyed in a few days

A Romanian from the online community of open source OSINT analysts examined images available online and found that at least 94 Russian tanks and infantry fighting vehicles had been destroyed there, probably in just a few days.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Defense also released a video collage showing the 72nd Mechanized Brigade wreaking havoc among enemy tanks.

The images are accompanied by an excerpt from a song by country singer Steve Wariner with the words: “Some fools never learn. Play with fire and you’ll get burned.”

Other videos on Twitter show other Russian casualties, including armored vehicles tearing into minefields:

Despite the catastrophic losses, last week Vladimir Putin promoted Rustam Muradov, commander of the Eastern Military District, who sent Moscow’s elite brigade into minefields, cleared for the third time since the invasion began.

Ukraine’s armed forces have reportedly destroyed “almost the entire brigade” of 155 Marines during the fighting in Vugledar, Donetsk region, Politico reported, citing Ukrainian military official Oleksiy Dmytrashkivskyi. This is the third destruction of a Navy brigade since the beginning of the war.

The Ukrainian army is inflicting “extremely significant” losses on Russian forces near the town of Vugledar in eastern Donbas, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said last Sunday.
