A world without Mihai Shora is a world without support, a defining person, a lighthouse person. It was often dark, His Eminence’s words enlightened us. Yesterday I wrote here about the role of public intellectuals, especially in moments of crisis. Mihai Shora took it upon himself with exemplary courage until the last moment. He was a good man who did unspeakable good. May he rest in well-deserved peace.

I learned from Mr. Mihai Shora what epistemic modesty means, the refusal of an oracular posture, of apodictic prophecies. He was the target of several vile attacks. It stood with decent verticality. I learned from his majesty that one should not stoop to the low level of some ignorant, ungrateful and arrogant pygmies. I learned the true meanings of the verbs reflect, protest and resist.
