
A new extensive two-day (February 23-24, 2023) operational action was carried out by the Athens Security Sub-Directorate of the Attica Security Directorate to combat “street crimes” in the wider area of central Athens.
In this regard, during the operation, carried out with the assistance of the OPKE. and by the Attica Aliens Authority, in Agios Panteleimonas, Pagrati, Kypseli, Agios Dimitrios, Omonia and Syntagma, 10 people were arrested, as the case may be, for robbery, theft, drugs, weapons, forgery, and acceptance and distribution of income from crimes.
In addition, 62 foreigners were brought in and seven people were arrested for violating the Aliens Act.

2 people arrested for drugs and weapons
According to intelligence, two citizens were detained in the Pagration area for violating drug and weapons laws.
During searches in their homes, the following were found and seized:
- 17 940 euros,
- 3 mobile phones,
- 4 nylon bags of cocaine with a total gross weight of 48.4 grams,
- 3 glasses with traces of cocaine, a glass of cocaine with a total gross weight of 95.5 grams and a bottle of cocaine with a total gross weight of 18.5 grams,
- nylon packaging with an unknown brown substance with a total gross weight of 23.2 grams,
- a nylon bag with cannabis with a gross weight of 57.1 grams, as well as 2 plastic bags with cannabis with a gross weight of 108.5 grams,
- 21 drug pills
- cartridge and 2 hunting cartridges,
- electronic precision scale,
- folding multitool,
- can of white unknown substance, total net weight 116.9 grams,
- nylon package with white powder of an unknown substance with a total gross weight of 1599 grams,
- several bags for distribution of drugs,
- 4 folding knives,
- 2 packets of pepper spray and
- two wheeled motorcycle.
2 people arrested for armed robberies
At the same time, two citizens were detained, who, as it turned out as a result of the preliminary investigation, from the end of January to mid-February 2023, with particular cruelty and with the use of weapons, robbed shops (pharmacies, supermarkets, etc.). .
In fact, the detainees were found to have different roles, and comparatively, one entered the stores and carried out the robbery, while the other served as a waiter and getaway car driver.
In this regard, 2 cases of robbery with weapons were investigated in shops located in the center of Athens and in Petralona.
During a search of the house, the following were found and seized:
- 2 pairs of motorcycle gloves
- 2 folding multi-tools that turn into knives, 2 folding knives,
- plastic part from the car interior and
- car (getaway car).
A criminal case has been initiated against them for committing robberies by profession, by habit, by complicity and by continuation, by two persons united for this purpose, with the use of weapons, with the pursuit of material gain and specifically with the collection of their income.
Arrest of 3 people for forging documents and distributing proceeds of crime
In addition, three foreigners were arrested in the center of Athens, against whom a criminal case was initiated on forgery of documents, forgery of certificates, acceptance and distribution of proceeds from crime, as well as violation of the law on foreigners. .
During searches in the house, as well as in the store, the following were found and seized:
- 10 foreigners’ passports,
- 27 residence permits for foreign citizens,
- 6 foreign identity cards,
- applicant’s card for international protection,
- 12 telephone sets and 7 mobile phones,
- 8 tablets and 13 laptops,
- 6 jewels,
- various applications and photocopies of documents of foreigners and
- 1330 euros.
The confiscated travel documents of foreigners were found carefully hidden behind the radiator of the house and were of dubious authenticity, and there were no supporting documents, certificates of origin for electronic devices, and their storage could not be justified.
In this regard, 8 mobile phones, recognized as stolen, were returned to their owners.
Arresting a man for theft, violating gun laws, and for a guilty verdict
In the area of Agios Dimitrios, a citizen was detained, against whom a criminal case was opened for theft and violation of the law on weapons, while, as it turned out, he faces 10 months in prison for theft.
A car theft case in the area of Agios Dimitrios was solved, and a search of his house found and confiscated a pepper spray and three cards with owner details different from those arrested.
Arrest of 2 people for forging documents and distributing proceeds of crime
During a check by the police of the DI.AS team. a citizen and a foreigner were detained in a vehicle, and a case was initiated against them for forging documents, as well as for obtaining and disposing of criminal funds.
In particular, during the inspection, 46 bank cards, 12,240 euros, a diary with entries, 3 mobile phones and 4 plastic business stamps were found and seized.
Production and conventional production
As part of an extensive police operation in the center of Athens, 62 foreigners were also brought in, of which 4 were arrested for violating the relevant legislation, and administrative deportation will be applied against them.
Finally, in relation to 4 people, 3 cases were opened in the usual manner for committing theft by profession, out of habit and by continuation, and 39 cases of theft from the interior of vehicles were investigated.
It’s about:
- a foreigner who committed 9 thefts in December 2021,
- a foreigner who, between April and July 2022, committed 12 thefts and
- 2 foreigners who from the beginning of November 2021 to the beginning of September 2022 committed 18 such thefts.
All those arrested were taken to the competent authorities of the prosecutor’s office.
