Ex-Galaxy Sergio Ramos has announced via social media that he is retiring from the national team after speaking with coach Luis De La Fuente, who told him that he will not be counted on regardless of how he performs on the pitch.

Sergio Ramos ended his career with the Spanish national team

The defender of Paris Saint-Germain assures that he would like another career with La Roja, for which he played 180 times and scored 23 goals, writes AS.com.

At the same time, Ramos conveyed that, although De La Fuente did not directly inform him about it, the reasons why he is no longer wanted are related to age and other aspects, and not to sports results.

“I believe that this career deserved to end because of a personal decision or because my game is no longer at the desired level in the national team, and not because of age or other reasons that I, without hearing, felt. Because being young or less young isn’t a virtue or a flaw, it’s just a temporary characteristic that isn’t necessarily related to performance or ability,” Ramos announced.

Also, the former player of “Real” regrets that his position cannot be compared with the position of Messi in Argentina, Pepe in Portugal or Modric in Croatia, who, despite their age, continue to be leaders of their national teams.

Sergio Ramos’ last game for Spain was on March 31, 2021 against Kosovo in a World Cup qualifier in Qatar.
