The results of the study were published in the journal “Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition”.

According to a study cited by Agerpres, foods high in selenium can suppress inflammation and oxidative stress, thus demonstrating the potential of a new dietary strategy for Alzheimer’s patients.

Alzheimer’s disease is a neurological disease characterized by memory loss and reduced learning ability, which can affect a person’s ability to perform daily activities and impair quality of life. Selenium-rich foods are gaining interest in Alzheimer’s research.

A team of researchers from the Institute of Microbiology of the Guangdong Academy of Sciences and other institutions have proposed a potential intervention mechanism with selenium-rich foods to improve the health status of people affected by this disease.

Selenium-rich foods include Brazil nuts, fish and seafood, brown rice, beans, and oats.

Selenium-rich ingredients are ubiquitous in many plants and microorganisms such as crucifers, yeasts, and fungi.
