Almost a year after the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on the orders of President Vladimir Putin, Moscow’s leadership shows no signs that it is open to negotiations to end the conflict, German intelligence agencies have said, quoted by DPA.

There are no signs that Putin wants a peace deal, German foreign intelligence chief Bruno Kahl said in comments to German media group Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND) published on Wednesday.

Putin would like to end the conflict on the battlefield

For now, Putin will be concerned with ending the conflict “on the battlefield and getting as many advantages there as possible to then dictate a peace deal on his terms at some point in the future,” intelligence chief Herman said.

Kahl also stressed that Russia could still send more soldiers to the front. Of the 300,000 mobilized by Moscow last fall, some are still undergoing training, others have already been sent to the front, he also said.

According to the head of German intelligence, Russia will have “an additional mobilization potential of up to 1 million people if the Kremlin deems it necessary.”

Despite Russia’s numerical superiority, Ukraine is still able to defend itself very effectively against Moscow’s forces, Kahl said.

“But this is a complex long-term struggle, and it will be successful from the Ukrainian side only if the West supports it,” added Kahl, who described the current situation on the battlefield as trench warfare, “very brutal.” , a brutal war of attrition.” (Source: Agerpres)
