It all started during the quarantine period, or rather, it developed inside it. “We didn’t have a job, we looked at each other, talked, and so the creation of a platform for gastronomic tours began,” explains “K” former winemaker and app creator Alexander the Great.
The app, which is already live but was officially launched yesterday, allows tourists to book appointments directly to visit winery or another point of culinary interest in every region of Greece. Once someone lands at the country’s airport, they can download it to their mobile phone. application from gastronomic tours and choose which culinary attractions he would like to visit. The app offers various search filters such as “points nearby” or points in a specific area.
“Food tours harmoniously connect places of Greek gastronomy that can be visited with unique culinary opportunities, providing information and recommendations to every visitor, whether a culinary expert or just a seeker of quality taste experiences. This is an excellent guide to navigate the exuberant landscape of the Greek culinary map. It also contains a calendar of culinary events, as well as a glossary of culinary terminology,” the Deputy Minister of Tourism emphasized. Sofia Zacharakis during the presentation of the platform.
original purpose
Mr. Alexandros Megapanos, in his attempt to create a platform with all the wineries in Greece worth visiting, found that there are producers everywhere doing very interesting work.
“Of course, my goal was to attract customers to the winery and thus sell wines, as well as to get to know more people in order to sell more wines in the future. But after seeing a lot of impressive effort put into various products, I contacted the producers and asked them if they were interested in participating.”
300 manufacturers
Today, there are already 300 producers participating in gastronomic tours, who have farms to visit and who are ready to welcome visitors all over Greece. Each manufacturer can directly display their profile on the platform in accordance with social media standards.
“Then we do verification to validate the data, after which it is uploaded to the platform,” explains Mr. Megapanos. As far as the desktop application is concerned, participation is free for producers, however participation in the respective mobile application, which is of course the main tool used by the visitors, is subject to a fee of 100 euros per year. “It is important that manufacturers trust us and understand that they can earn through the platform to get as many people as possible,” he adds.
On the other hand, each visitor can view the application, plan their visit and independently make an appointment with the owner of the culinary “place” they want to visit. There is a €3 fee for each appointment, however the visitor then receives a discount on products that they can purchase during their visit.
