Ana Bohdan remained the only representative of Romania in singles in Dubai (WTA 1000), our athlete on Tuesday beat Shelby Rogers (USA – 45th place in the world). In the eighth, Ana will face Jessica Pegula, the third favorite.

Bohdan needed an hour and 45 minutes to overcome the American 7-6(3), 6-3.

Set I

The first set became a real festival of breaks, the service games seemed to be quite a heavy burden for the two players (there were six breaks in total).

After several changes in the score, it came to a tie-break, where Ana was better. Our athlete won the first set ball (7-3), in general, the match turned out to be very balanced.

Set II

With high spirits after winning the first set, Ana started the second set with a break. He then held his serve (saving two break points along the way) and eventually took straight 2-0, 3-1, 4-2 and 5-3 leads.

The pressure from the rematch paid off, and Ana finished the match on serve: 6-3. The match with Rodgers lasted two hours and 6 minutes.

• The women’s singles main draw in Romania also featured Iryna Begu (lost in the first round) and Sorana Kirstya (eliminated on Tuesday, in the second round).

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships runs from February 19 to 25 on hard, is part of the “WTA 1000” category and has a total prize pool of $2,788,468. Simona Halep won the tournament in 2015 and 2020, and the last edition went to Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia.
