First death from streptococcus a was recorded in our country, announced EODI. On Monday 02/13/2023 National Public Health Organization A national nursing agency reported the death of a six-year-old child who had suffered from septic shock. EODY reported death to ECDC, as expected, as blood culture revealed invasive group A streptococcus (iGAS-Streptococcus pyogenes).
“It’s about first death from streptococcus A since the outbreak in Europe, and epidemiological data do not indicate a public health concern in the country“, says EODY. He adds that this is a common microbe that occurs very often, and invasive group A streptococcal infections are not tracked through the mandatory disease reporting system in our country. However, due to the recent outbreak of cases in the UK and other European countries EODY has required the country’s health authorities to report confirmed cases of group A streptococcus.
It is noted that EODY has sent out recommendations on appropriate protective measures and therapeutic treatment for such incidents and is ready for early case detection.
