Today, Sunday, Meta announced that it is preparing to provide users with a “Meta Verified” service with a monthly subscription.
This service will allow users to verify their accounts and receive a blue badge, just like Twitter does.
The Instagram and Facebook subscription package, which will be released next week, also includes additional spoofing protection and will cost $11.99/month online or $14.99/month on iOS, Apple, and Android.
The Meta Verified service will launch in Australia and New Zealand this week, with other countries to follow.
With this move, Meta appears to be following in the footsteps of Twitter, which announced last month that its similar service, called Twitter Blue, would cost $11 a month.
Other social media apps, such as Snapchat’s SNAP.N from Snap Inc and messaging app Telegram, launched paid subscription services last year as a new source of income.
