This morning, a memorial prayer ceremony was held in the Holy Church of Pammegisto Taxiarchon in memory of the policemen who died in the line of duty, and then wreaths were laid at the Memorial to the Fallen Policemen, located at the entrance to the ministry buildings.

Citizens Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos, Deputy Citizens Protection Minister Eleftherios Oikonomu, Health Minister Athanasios Plevris, Attica Regional Governor Yorgos Patoulis, Secretary General of Public Order Michael Karamalakis, Secretary General of Crime Politics, Konstantinos Papatanasiou, Pavlos New Democracy Political Committee Secretary Marinakis, the head of the Greek police, Lieutenant General Konstantinos Skumas, representatives of local government, as well as trade union bodies of the Greek police.

“Today we honor our police officers who have fallen in the line of duty. Those men and women who have consciously decided to connect their lives with the practical philosophy of contribution to the fatherland and the attitude of responsibility towards the Greek people and every single citizen,” said Mr. Theodorikakos in his memorial speech, adding that: “We honor them and always we will be by their side, just as they will always belong to the family of the Greek police.”

At the same time, he emphasized that: “As the political leadership of the Ministry of Citizens’ Protection, we must do everything necessary to improve the security of those at risk, responding to the highest mission of the security of citizens and the Motherland. .”

Finally, he noted that: “We walk alongside our policing activities, facing challenges, proposing solutions, initiating change and reform for a modern, humane, efficient, transparent police force, a police force that stands next to society, respecting democratic legitimacy. and dedicated herself to her mission. The unity of our police officers themselves and the constant cooperation of all institutional entities of the Ministry and ELAS is a condition for our continuous and effective actions. So we continue. With a plan, hard work and determination. Honoring the deeds of people who have left their duty. Their memory will remain forever, and we will always honor them.”

For his part, the head of ELAS, Lieutenant General Konstantinos Skumas, among other things, emphasized that: “We are here, overwhelmed with a sense of tenderness and respect for these people who are not among us today,” and added that: “These are not heroes, but people who put the public good above the personal and, of good will, decided to courageously defend the good of life, safety and property of our fellow citizens. Today we honor these police officers!”.
