Less than a third of Romanian taxpayers (27.42%) who could have supported social causes exercised this right in 2022, diverting 3.5% of their income tax. Save the Children calls on Romanians to use their choice to support social causes and announces a list of 39 pediatric and maternity homes that have requested help in equipping them with high-performance medical equipment.

In absolute number, 1,871,098 forms were filled in, with the help of which Romanians actively supported social and humanitarian causes and programs, the total amount collected through this mechanism was 296,587,817 lei (of which 268,238,966 after submitting form 230 and 28,348,851 after the submission of a single Declaration in 2022), according to the response provided by ANAF to Save the Children Romania’s request.

The organization calls on Romanians to use their choice to support social causes and announces a list of 39 pediatric and maternity homes that have requested help in equipping them with high-performance medical equipment.

“After analyzing the appeals of doctors from all over the country, we determined a priority program for equipping children’s and neonatology departments with medical equipment. In this key program of Save the Children Romania, the mechanism to redirect 3.5% of income tax to hospitals is a vital mechanism”, says Gabriela Alexandrescu, Executive President of Save the Children Romania.

Romania, as before, ranks first in the EU in terms of the mortality rate of children under one year

Romania continues to rank first in the European Union in terms of infant mortality, a value reached in 2020 according to the INS (5.6/1000 live births), almost similar to the average of the old European Union about 20 years ago.

According to the National Federation of Associations of Family Physicians, 53% of settlements in Romania do not have family physicians at all or do not have a sufficient number of family physicians.

Many girls and women from low-income rural areas resort to self-medication during pregnancy, do not consult a doctor for proper registration and monitoring of pregnancy, and wait for an exacerbation or worsening of the condition.
