On Friday night, the Timisoara Opera House experienced a power cut, right during the grand opening of the European Capital of Culture program, an event attended by officials including Prime Minister Nicolae Cuke.

A concert performed by Jay Jay Johnson was held at the Grand Opera House in Timisoara as part of the gala opening of the European Capital of Culture program. Officials and guests were present at the solemn event.

At one point there was a power outage.

Leaving the hall, Prime Minister Nikolay Chuke was asked what he thought about the fact that such an event gained momentum.

“Indeed, it happened. This is a matter of technical preparation of the event,” Chuke answered.

For his part, Timisoara Mayor Dominik Fritz said he sees this as a good sign because the electricity was also interrupted in 2007 for the opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture in Sibiu.

For his part, Mayor Dominik Fritz said: “It was very, very interesting. I must say that in 2007 the electricity went out at the opening ceremony, and the presidential advisor Sergio Nistor told me about that incident and said: “Mr. Mayor, knowing that you have a power outage is a good sign of success for the year, and what happened? The power went out, but during the concert, which was still with lights, and at first everyone thought it was part of the show, then we realized that the power went out, but it came back on. I take it as a good sign that it will be a successful year like 2007 in Sibiu (…) Even the artist thanked us afterwards because everything seemed to make sense at that moment.”
