The commander of the Norwegian armed forces, General Eirik Kristoffersen, does not believe in the military victory of Ukraine in the war with Russia, despite the consistent support announced by Oslo and other Western states, Ukrainian Pravda reports.

In his comments to the Norwegian press, he called unrealistic predictions about Kyiv’s victory over Russia.

“I believe that there is no military solution to this conflict. To finally defeat each other, the parties will need a very long time, and it will be a terrible price for their peoples,” the general explained.

The comments of the head of the Norwegian armed forces came after Prime Minister Jonas Gar Stere announced in early February a large-scale aid package for Ukraine worth 7.3 billion euros, but it will be distributed over 5 years, Reuters reports.

However, not all the money is intended for the armed forces of Kyiv, this year half of the funds will be directed to humanitarian aid. However, Stoere said the way they are distributed could change in the coming years.

Another Norwegian officer believes that Ukraine can win the war on the battlefield

Lt. Col. Palle Idstebo, head of the Land Forces Department at the Norwegian Military Academy, also sees a long-term conflict, but does not consider predictions of Ukraine’s victory in the war to be unrealistic.

“Ukraine can rely on the entire economy of the West, while Russia will have to be content with very limited support from North Korea and Iran, as well as technological support from China,” he said.

The Norwegian officer also believes that under the current circumstances it is unacceptable for political leaders in Kyiv to think about negotiations with Russia and territorial concessions.

“It will be a war for who can last longer, and in the worst case it will last several years,” says Jdstebo.

By the way, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky once again ruled out the possibility of granting Russia territorial concessions to end the war.

He repeated his calls for more military aid from Western allies and said Western weapons would bring peace closer. “Of course, modern weapons accelerate peace. Weapons are the only language that Russia understands.”

Norway is one of the countries that announced the supply of Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv after Germany allowed countries that have such combat vehicles to send them to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
