The Minister of Education Lihiia Deka explains the reasons why the spring vacation of the next academic year is scheduled between the Catholic and Orthodox Easters. She shows that during the negotiations, the idea of ​​moving the holiday was not discussed and that the main reason why this holiday is between the two Easter holidays, “besides the equality of treatment between denominations, is also the balancing of the modules from a pedagogical point of view.”

“We have a special situation for the next school year. In that year, we have a long distance between the Catholic Easter holidays and the Orthodox Easter holidays, it is about a month. In the logic of a balanced distribution of modules, that is, having a comparable number of weeks, spring break falls exactly in the middle. So there are legal days off for two holidays, and spring break falls somewhere in the middle. We had a public discussion about the structure of the academic year, in the context of the Social Dialogue Commission we asked the opinion of students, parents, trade unions, we did not discuss at the meeting the need to move this spring break between modules. before the Easter holidays,” Ligia Deca explained on Thursday, News.ro reports.

She added that one of the arguments for leaving this week in its original form is “the need for space during the holidays to organize the various stages of the school Olympiad.”

“That was one of the reasons. But the main reason why this holiday is between the two Easter holidays, in addition to the equality between confessions, is also the balance of the modules from a pedagogical point of view. It is normal for them to be unbalanced in the number of weeks, so we settled on this option,” Deka revealed.

The League of Students condemns the removal of the Easter holiday from the 2023-2024 academic year calendar and asks the Minister of Education Ligia Deku to correct the situation. The students claim that more than 65,000 children will suffer greatly because they will not be able to see their parents who go to work abroad. The League of Students is asking Prime Minister Nikilai Chuke to disband the Dec League if the order on the structure of the academic year is not changed. According to the document, spring vacation is scheduled for April 13-21, 2024, given that the Orthodox Easter falls on May 5 and the Catholic Easter on March 31.
