
At an event held today at the Central Hotel of Athens, the opening of Greece’s first forensic science laboratory, named “Crime Lab“. Its founder is the former head of the prosecutor’s office for electronic crimes, specialist researcher-analyst of electronic crimes, Manolis Sfakianakis.
The event was attended by the Minister of Civil Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, who initially pointed out in his speech that security is not a vague declaration, but a task that requires systematic daily work that has a specific and measurable result. “Over the past year, we are full of satisfaction with the fact that we have had the lowest number of murders in the last 11 years and the highest percentage – about 90% – of disclosures,” he said characteristically.
At the same time, he stressed that the Ministry of Citizens’ Protection has invested heavily in equipping and training specialized Greek police personnel to fight all forms of crime. In this context, we salute the collaborative work of the “Crime Lab” of the hands and mind of a man who has left his mark on the Greek police force as well as our society.”
A statement by the Minister of Justice was read at the event. Costa Ciarawho was unable to attend, where, among other things, he stressed that “criminal laboratory “Crime Lab” can, thanks to the deep knowledge and rich experience of its founder and its leaders, contribute to the scientific documentation of truth and, therefore, to a more efficient administration justice.”
Attica Regional Governor Georges Patoulis and former High Court Prosecutor Ioannis Tentes gave a brief welcome.
For his part, Mr. Sfakianakis stressed that the Lab is expected to give a big boost to speeding up court decisions as the time to complete laboratory tests and results will be reduced, noting that for the first time in Greece, the role of a forensic scientist has been singled out.
The event was attended, in particular, by the Minister for the Protection of Citizens, Takis TheodorikakosMinister of Finance Christos Staikouras, Deputy Minister of Sports Lefteris Avgenakis, Regional Governor of Attica Yorgos Patoulis, deputies, representatives of the judiciary and lawyers, current and retired ELAS employees.
For the first time, Criminalists, criminal behavior analysts and scientists of all specialties are participating in the Crime Lab, who will help the work of the judiciary and police with their knowledge so that the truth can be proven by evidence in the commission of a crime. .
