The American biopharmaceutical company Viatris informed Russia about the suspension of supplies of Viagra tablets, the Ministry of Industry and Trade reported, citing the Interfax agency.

“The drug under the trade name Viagra, which has an international non-protected trade name (INN) sildenafil, is not produced in Russia. “In 2022, Viatris LLC announced the suspension of supplies of Viagra in the form of tablets,” the ministry document says.

He assured that in the Russian Federation there are technological possibilities for the production of medicines with the same active substance.

Thus, within the framework of the state program of the Russian Federation “Development of the pharmaceutical and medical industry”, a project on the organization and conduct of clinical trials of the drug with sildenafil in the form of tablets was supported, which was approved.

At present, the technological possibility of production of sildenafil preparations in Russia, including the synthesis of the pharmaceutical substance, is ensured, Interfax notes.

Thus, according to the state register of medicinal products, in Russia, 36 companies have 49 registration certificates for medicinal products with the corresponding active substance.
