The first inspection of bridges on national roads has been completed and no problems caused by the earthquakes registered in the past two days have been found, the Craiova Regional Roads and Bridges Department (DRDP) announced on Tuesday evening.

According to DRDP Craiova, which is quoted by Agerpres, bridges with several openings were checked at the first stage.

“The first survey of bridges on roads of state importance has been completed; at the first stage, multi-span bridges were inspected; no problems caused by recent earthquakes have been identified. Regional Director of DRDP Craiova Kelin Kosmin Petruts asked all subordinate sections of national roads to continue inspection and control all risk zones, especially defile zones, where there is a risk of rocks falling from the slopes,” DRDP reports.

On Tuesday afternoon, a new earthquake occurred in Romania, in the county of Gorzh, which was accompanied by at least six aftershocks, becoming the strongest in the last five years. The earthquake, with a revised magnitude of 5.7, struck at a depth of just 6.3 kilometers and was also felt in Bucharest.

This is the second strong earthquake in the area in 24 hours. The first earthquake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, occurred on Monday afternoon at a depth of 16.5 kilometers.
