
The head of the US State Department, Anthony Blinken, said on Monday that he was “deeply concerned” by Israel’s decision to legalize new settlements in the occupied West Bank and plans to build new housing in existing settlements, AFP reports.
“We are deeply concerned by Israel’s decision yesterday to accelerate the construction of up to 10,000 homes and retroactively begin the process of legalizing nine settlements in the West Bank previously considered illegal under Israeli law,” he said in a statement.
An Israeli police officer was killed and a Jewish teenager was wounded Monday in separate stabbing attacks by Palestinians in annexed East Jerusalem, police said.
