Thessaloniki: 13 people were identified who deceived the elderly

In solving cases of embezzlement committed at the expense of our elderly fellow citizens in various regions of the East Thessaloniki Police officers from the security department of Harilau-Analipseos continued their work.

Through intensive and thorough investigation, thirteen (13) individuals were identified.

These are 11 local men and 22 local women (some of whom are related) aged 21 to 57 who, on an individual basis, committed six (6) thefts between October 2022 and January 2023.

The characteristics of their mode of action were:

  • Selecting a specific age group as potential victims. They chose the elderly to ensure their unhindered escape after committing criminal acts.
  • Search for their potential victims in the neighborhood, approaching them just before entering their homes.
  • Posing as technicians from an electrical or elevator company, they gained the trust of their elderly victims and easily entered their homes.
  • Employment of the victims, and sometimes their “locking” in the premises (mainly in the kitchen), while their accomplices searched the premises of the houses.

As it turned out as a result of a police investigation, their production exceeds 72,000 euros in cash and jewelry.

It is noted that in one case they also seized a bank card, with which they carried out transactions and withdrawals of money.

The files that have been filed will be handed over to the Thessaloniki Criminal Prosecutor’s Office while the investigation continues to identify other victims.
