Romania has barely officially decided who will represent us at Eurovision 2023. Teodor Andrej will take the stage in Liverpool in May with the song “DGT (Off and on)”, but the first odds from the bookmakers do not look too encouraging, despite the fact that many member states have not yet appointed their representatives.

Teodor Andrej is only 18 years old, but he will represent Romania at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool in May. The song with which he won the national selection, called “DGT (Off and on)”, is half Romanian and half English and, according to the singer, “highlights a very important issue” for everyone.

The International Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will be held in Liverpool – the semi-finals and the grand final will be held on May 9 and 11 and May 13, 2023, respectively. The 2023 edition will be held in Great Britain, which is hosting the competition on behalf of Ukraine, due to the war raging on the territory of that country.

What are Romania’s chances at Eurovision 2023 according to bookmakers’ odds

Although the figure that will represent Romania has just been chosen, the bookmakers’ odds already place our country in the hierarchy of chances to win the competition.

According to Eurovisionworldcom, the site that collects the most betting coefficients in the top, Romania has very low chances – below 1% – and ranks 36th out of 37, which is not even in the conditions of many participating countries. – determined the representatives.

Among the 12 odds from bookmakers concentrated on the mentioned site, Romania gets odds from 100 to 300 to 1, many average around 250 to 1. Only Albania has weaker odds than Romania.

Of course, it’s still early days, and the odds could change significantly in the coming months as the songs submitted become more popular.

Ukraine is again a big favorite of bookmakers

As for the favorites, it should be said that Ukraine is again a clear favorite to win the Eurovision Song Contest, as it happened last year with the Kalush Orchestra.

This time, the group Tvorchi will compete for Ukraine with the song “Steel Heart”, its chances of winning the competition, according to the coefficient, are 23%.

In second place in terms of chances is Sweden (10%), however, it has not yet determined its representative and figure for the competition.

In the top three is Norway (8%) with Alessandra – “Queen of Kings”.

In total, more than 36,500 votes were cast by telephone and online at the national selection on February 11, 2023.

This year, the public vote was the only decisive criterion in the national selection, as a specialized jury was not involved to assign points to the works that made it to the finals.

Of the total number of votes, Teodor Andrey’s song received a little more than 5,200 votes, being the first in the top.
