On Sunday morning, “the RO USAR 2 team rescued a 35-year-old man from the rubble after a continuous 12-hour mission,” according to a post on the ISU Bucharest-Ilfov Facebook page.

“After identifying the victim using sound amplification sensors, rescuers gradually gained access through the collapsed elements to provide him with an oxygen mask. Medics and Turkish volunteers were involved in the rescue work. This achievement gives the rescuers the strength to continue to the end. There is still hope!” – said the source.

The State Emergency Service also sent information that the man was trapped in the stairwell by the earthquake in a 6-story building that completely collapsed.

“The victim, trapped under a concrete beam on the upper floors, was conscious and willing to cooperate. The SMURD medical team provided the necessary specialized assistance to the victim, after which he was handed over to the ambulance team working on the spot,” the SSU added.

The number of victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, which on Sunday morning exceeded 28 thousand, risks increasing at least twice, warned the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and emergency coordinator Martin Griffiths.
