“I have ordered the landing of an unidentified object that has violated Canadian airspace,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wrote on Twitter.

“Airplanes from Canada and the United States were sent to the scene,” and fire from an American F-22 fighter jet “hit the facility,” he added.

This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Canada on Twitter that he spoke with his American counterpart, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin, reaffirming the “joint defense” of their sovereignty.

This is the second flying object shot down by the United States in about 24 hours. A similar object “the size of a small car” was destroyed on Friday because it posed a “threat to air traffic safety,” according to White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby.

The incident came a week after Washington shot down a Chinese spy balloon off the Atlantic coast that flew over sensitive military targets but was described by Beijing as “a civilian aircraft used for research purposes, mainly meteorological”.
