The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in 2023 will be held in Great Britain, which will organize the contest on behalf of Ukraine, due to the war that broke out in that country. The event will take place at the Liverpool Arena and will feature two semi-finals and a grand final which will be broadcast live on TVR.

The Eurovision Song Contest is the most important international music competition organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the largest European association of public broadcasters.

Romanian Television is the organizer of the national selection and has been participating in the European competition since 1993.

The best performances of Romania at Eurovision were: twice third place (Luminiţa Anghel & Sistem – Kyiv, 2005; Paula Seling and Ovi – Oslo, 2010) and once fourth place (Mihai Trăistariu – Athens, 2006).

However, after last year’s scandal, Romania decided to participate in Eurovision 2023

In August, TVR’s Board of Directors approved Romania’s participation in Eurovision 2023 and the start of the steps needed to identify a Swiss law firm to assess the dispute with the EBU. The decision came after a scandal at this year’s Eurovision, when the contest organizer canceled Romania’s vote due to irregularities.

The head of TVR, Dan Turturica, then said that he would support TVR’s governing bodies to refuse to participate in Eurovision.

However, on August 26, the Administrative Council unanimously approved Romania’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the most popular international music competitions, held every year since 1956. The show is one of the longest-running and most popular television programs in the world, broadcast in Europe as well as in Australia, Asia and the United States.
