US State Department Deputy Spokesman Vedant Patel said on Friday, Reuters reports, that Washington has “no indication” of a direct military threat from Russia to the Republic of Moldova or Romania.
The statement of the representative of US diplomacy was made in the context of the fact that Ukraine announced the passage of Russian cruise missiles “Kalibr” on Friday through the airspace of Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
“We maintain close contact and communication with our Moldovan partners and our Romanian allies,” Vedant Patel added.
Ukrainian army chief Valery Zaluzhny initially announced that two Russian cruise missiles had entered the airspace of Romania and the Republic of Moldova on Friday before entering Ukraine in a massive Russian attack in the morning.
The head of the Republic of Moldova’s diplomacy, Nika Popescu, ordered to urgently summon the Russian ambassador to Chisinau, Oleg Vasnetsov, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to draw the attention of the Russian side to the “unacceptable violation” of the republic’s airspace, the ministry’s press service reported.
Instead, the Romanian Ministry of Defense said that the aerial target, most likely a cruise missile launched from the Black Sea from a Russian Federation ship, near the Crimean Peninsula, crossed the airspace of the Republic of Moldova and was detected on Friday by the air surveillance system of the Romanian Air Force. but did not enter Romanian airspace.
The Kremlin does not comment: “It is connected with a special operation”
The Kremlin did not want to comment on the information about the passage of a Russian missile through the airspace of the Republic of Moldova on Friday.
“No, I couldn’t comment on that. This is directly related to the military special operation itself, these are issues that belong to the Ministry of Defense,” said the spokesman of the Russian president Dmytro Peskov, quoted by the TASS agency.
