
The Ministry of Justice published on Friday the list of candidates selected for interviews for the positions of Attorney General, DNA Attorney General and DIICOT Chief Prosecutor. Incumbent Attorney General Gabriela Scutea and current DNA Chairman Krin Bologa are running for a new three-year term.
The Ministry of Justice started the procedure for selecting candidates for the post of prosecutor general and for the post of prosecutor general of the DNA on December 27 last year.
On Friday, the Ministry of Justice announced that the following candidates were admitted to the interview:
For a position in Prosecutor General of Romania:
- Current Attorney General Gabriela Scutea
- Alex-Florin Florenza, former head of DIICOT Timisoara, delegated a year ago to the central structure of the direction
For a position in chief prosecutor of the DNA:
- The current head of DNA is Krin Bologa
- Prosecutor Marius Jonuts Voyneag, deputy of the Department of Criminal Investigations and Forensics of the General Prosecutor’s Office and former head of DIICOT’s Economic and Financial Macrocrime Service.
Interviews are scheduled for February 20 (Gabriela Scutea and Alex Florenza) and February 21 (Krin Bologa and Marius Wojniag).
Candidates for head of DIIKOT:
- Joanna Albani, chief prosecutor for the Information Crimes Prevention and Combating Service at DIICOT, was honored by former FBI Director David Comey. In 2011, he received the “Prosecutor of the Year” award of the International Association of Prosecutors.
- Oana Patsu, appointed in 2020 as deputy head of DIICOT, who took over as interim head of the department after Georgiana Josu resigned in September 2020 following the conviction of her husband in a corruption case.
- Alina Albu, prosecutor Head of the delegated service in DIICOT – Service for Combating Organized Crime.
They will conduct interviews on February 24. The Ministry of Justice will announce the results of the selection for the position of DIIKOT chairman on March 1.
The Ministry of Justice will announce the results of the selection for the positions of the Prosecutor General and the Prosecutor General of the DNA on February 27.
The reasoned proposals of the Minister of Justice will be submitted to the Section for Prosecutors of the CSM on the same day for the provision of a reasoned advisory opinion no later than 30 days after receiving the request of the Minister of Justice.
In the case of a negative advisory opinion issued by the Section for Prosecutors of the CSM, the law provides for the Minister of Justice to organize a new interview exclusively with the candidate who received a negative opinion. After the interview, the Minister of Justice can continue the procedure by submitting to the President of Romania a proposal for the appointment to the executive position together with all relevant documents, or withdraw the proposal by starting a new selection procedure within a maximum of 60 days from the withdrawal of the proposal.
The reasoned proposal of the Minister of Justice will be forwarded to the Prosecutors’ Section of the CSM on the same day for a reasoned advisory opinion.
