Roland Garros and Wimbledon will allow training of men’s tennis

According to The Telegraph, this year’s Roland Garros and Wimbledon will take coaching advice during matches for their students.

This method has already been adopted at the US Open, and at the recent Australian Open, coaches are allowed to communicate with the players they are coaching under certain rules.

Because of the desire to have the same rules everywhere, the organizers of Roland Garros and Wimbledon will also allow coaching.

In recent years, there have been many cases of players being punished for having coded conversations with their coaches during matches.

Wanting to avoid such problems, tennis officials agreed to allow players to speak with their coaches.

It is currently unclear under what conditions tennis players will be able to receive advice from their coaches at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, but this will soon be settled.

What is provided by the ATP rules for training on the court

Coaches’ advice is accepted as long as it does not interrupt the course of the match in any way.

As before, the coaches (from the players’ staff) will sit only in certain places in the stands, clearly indicated by the organizers. They must be as visible as possible to the referee throughout the game.

A short dialogue between the player and the coach will only happen when the athlete is on the same side of the field as his team’s box.

Non-verbal advice (via various gestures / signs) will be allowed at any time as long as the game is not in progress (between points).

Verbal advice will consist of a few words or short sentences, long conversations are not allowed.

If players leave the field for various reasons (medical timeout, locker room break, etc.), coaches are not allowed to communicate with their players.

Roland Garros 2023 will be held from May 28 to June 11, and Wimbledon from July 3 to 16.
