Bad weather “Barbarian” caused heavy snowfalls in most of eastern and southern mainland and insular Greece. In fact, in areas of Thessaly, Central Greece, Peloponnese and Crete, snow continued to fall until Thursday afternoon.
National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr edited last satellite data on snow cover and calculation what about 20% land area Greece on Wednesday was covered in snow.
The following map shows the geographic distribution of snow cover in white.
On a nested chart snow cover course (with red dotted curve) from mid-January (1.10) to Wednesday 02.08.
The white curve is taking over average snow cover in the period 2004-2022and, apparently, after the bad weather “Barbara” the area of snow cover exceeded the average value for the last 19 years.
