Earthquake: fireman’s son who saved little Andreas in Aigio freed a child in Turkey

Particularly touching is the human detail of the dramatic and titanic efforts of Greek rescuers in the city of Hatay, Turkey, who pulled four people alive from the ruins of buildings that collapsed from a terrifying earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale.

One of the members of the Greek mission, who yesterday pulled a living 7-year-old girl from a damaged building, is the son of another heroic firefighter, who in 1995 became a shining example of life and self-sacrifice, rescuing from the rubble of a building that collapsed as a result of an earthquake in Agios, then 11 -year-old Andreas Bogdanos.

It is about the pyromancer Kostas Nikas, officer-scientist of the Greek mission, a graduate of the Civil Engineering Department of the Polytechnic University, who has a master’s degree in the destruction of buildings from natural disasters, who is the soul of the team, and field research, giving the appropriate instructions for the movements that should be for his colleagues to ensure their lives, and also, of course, the lives of the people found in the ruins.

The news “leaked” from the position of another member of the Greek mission in Turkey, who wrote with excitement and pride about the contribution of his colleague and friend, remembering the heroic deed of his father, Panagiotis Michah, in 1995 in Aigio.

“Takis will be proud of his son from above,” say firefighters who knew his father Kostas Nikas well, who died in the line of duty a few years ago when he was director of the East Attica fire district.
