He passed away at the age of 56 Chania MP for New Democracy Manusos Volodakis.

Announcing his death, Kostas Tasoulas, Speaker of the Parliament, called him a great friend and beloved colleague, stressing that he had represented Chania prefecture well for a number of years.

Manousos Volodakis, according to APE-MPE, faced serious health problems and was in the hospital for 10 days, and from Saturday his health began to deteriorate.

He was born in Athens on 16 December 1966 and was married to lawyer Sevi Amanatidou, with whom he had three children.

He studied Economics at the University of Athens and received his Master’s degree in Political Economy from the University of Essex, England.

First elected MP for Chania with N.D. in 2007. He was re-elected in the double elections of 2012, and also in July 2019. In the current deputy term (II’) he participated in the following committees of the Parliament: the Standing Committee on Production and Trade, the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, the special Standing Committee for European Affairs, a special Permanent Commission on Hellenism in the Diaspora, and a Commission for the Revision of the Constitution.

During the period 2005-2006. he was Secretary General for Commerce of the Ministry of Development. In January 2010, he took up the position of Secretary of the Department of New Technologies, Research and Innovation of the ND, from which he resigned in December 2011 to participate in the next parliamentary elections. In June 2012, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Administrative Reform and E-Government. From October 2015 to June 2019, he again worked in the private sector, taking up the position of Managing Director of International Trade SA of the VIOHALCO group based in Brussels, and in July 2019 he was re-elected Member of Parliament for Chania. .

“There are not enough words to describe my grief over the loss of Manusos Volodakis. To my good friend and partner, as well as my beloved compatriot and loyal ally in the New Democracy,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis wrote in a post about the death of the Chania MP.

“Manusos leaves an imprint of quality throughout its journey. As a member of parliament, as an economist, as a citizen of Chania. While public life owes him a lot, as Deputy Minister of Administrative Reform, he bravely fought the bureaucracy,” he said, saying that the government and the party mourn his untimely death.

“Our thoughts are with his family right now. To his beloved Sevi and their three children. Daphne, Syphi and Giorgos, always remember your father. And be proud of him,” the prime minister added.

Former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras made the following statement on the death of Chania MP N.D. Manus Volodakis:

“The loss of Manusos Volodakis plunges everyone into immense sadness. A wonderful young man, noble, cultured, educated, presentable, family man, died. We were connected by deep personal friendship, political mutual understanding, common concern for the future of our Motherland.

He was civilized with morals, with arguments and, above all, with irresistible militancy.

His family, Chania, his party, his friends, we will never forget him. My sincere condolences to Sevi and their three children. May his memory live forever.”
